Okra Playground plays genuine electro folk where strong vocal harmonies, big sound, age-old lyrics, contemporary soundscapes, traditional folk instruments, hypnotic beats and mystical energy take the listener to far off places and close to home.
Okra Playground released their awaited second album Ääneni yli vesien (My Voice Over Waters) in March 2018 by German label Nordic Notes. The group’s sound has evolved even more electronical but the traditional roots dig deep. The lyrics are newly written but inspired by ancient Finnish poetry; telling universal stories about courage and the joy of finding one’s own way. Ääneni yli vesien has already gained great reviews and reached top 3 at World Music Charts Europe and top 10 at Transglobal World Music Chart. The album release tour took place in Germany and Belgium in February.
The band’s debut album Turmio (2015) was internationally acclaimed gaining praises and top listings all over music media – for instance a five star review in Songlines Magazine in UK. In 2016 Okra Playground performed at WOMEX among the Official Showcase Selection. Since then the band has charmed audiences at festivals such as The Rainforest World Music Festival in Malaysia, Brosella Folk & Jazz Festival in Belgium, WOMEX World Music Expo and urban Flow Festival in Finland.
